We
have received a number of enquiries about creating custom
photo bunting with our Fabric Press, so I reckoned it would
be useful to post a short tutorial. Click through from this
for the full infographic. The main problems I have encountered
are:
- The images are not sharp enough, so the flags must
be larger than I would like. Start with a small flag but
be prepared to make it a lot bigger. The image below shows
a pic 11cm x 11cm. Unless your images are perfect, you are
better off making them at least 15cm x 15cm and even larger.
- The flags are actually quite fabric hungry, so I do
not want wastage. So don’t forget to use a row of
flags tucked into the spaces of the first row to keep wastage
to a minimum. BUT allow enough space between the rows so
you can cut easily without damaging the images.
- The triangle is a beastly shape for cropping faces,
so take care to select pictures with high contrast and not
too much detail.
Remember: the maximum width of our cotton
is 140cm so that’s how wide you can make your rows.
As for resolution: work to around 180dpi.

Worried still? If you can afford the fabric, make the
images larger. This will make them easier to crop and they
will probably print better and have more impact when you complete
your string.
